  2. 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder+1/2 teasopoon more
  3. 1 medium size chopped Onion
  4. 1 medium size chopped Tomato
  5. 1 table spoon Mustard oil + 1 teaspoon more
  6. 2 dry Red Chilli
  7. 1 teaspoon Panchfuran (a mixture of 5 spices)
  8. As per taste Salt
  9. For Mustard paste
  10. 4-5 Garlic cloves
  11. 2-3 fresh Green Chilli
  12. 1 tablespoon Mustard seed
  13. 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  14. 1 pinch Salt

Instructions to make to make Crab in Mustard gravy

  1. First,prepare the mustard paste.For that take all the ingredients of mustard paste mentioned above to a small grinder.
  2. With little water grind to a thick paste.

  4. If you have "sil_batta" then make paste with that. Mustard paste taste best if you make it in silbatta. But as I don't have it,I grinded it in the grinder.
  5. Set aside the paste.
  6. Clean and wash Crabs nicely.
  7. To the crab add in 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder,1/2 teaspoon of chilli powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  8. Mix well to coat the crab pieces.
  9. Heat 1 teaspoon mustard oil to a yok/kadhai.
  10. Shallow fry the crabs on both sides for 2-3 minutes. Remove from the yok.
  11. Heat 1 tbsp of mustard oil in the same yok and temper with dry red chilli and mustard seeds.
  12. When mustard seeds start crackling, add in chopped onion. Saute until onions become soft and translucent.
  13. Next add in chopped tomato and stir well in medium heat.
  14. When tomatoes become mushy, add in 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder,1/2 teaspoon of red chilli powder and salt to taste. Mix well to combine.
  15. Now add in prepared crabs and stir well. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
  16. Now add in the prepared mustard paste and mix well.
  17. Add in 1/2 cup of water, stir and cover.
  18. Cook in medium low heat for about 5 minutes.
  19. The masala should coat the crab pieces.
  20. Check the seasoning, sprinkle coriander leaves and remove from heat.
  21. Serve with steam rice or pakhala rice.
